ABOUT ME
I have been writing for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I wrote short stories about many different things. As I grew older and realized that life has steered me in multiple directions, I decided that now is the time to get serious about my passion.
I have a Master’s degree in Psychology and Bachelor degrees in both Psychology and Anthropology. My specialty is working with the seriously and persistently mentally ill, with an emphasis on trauma. In addition, I am an adjunct professor of Psychology.
For a large part of my life, academia was incredibly important. I was a big nerd all through high school, college and graduate school. I love to teach, and being on a college campus is like Heaven to me. However, I am a lady of many interests and goals. My mind is always working and planning that next phase of my life.
When I was not focused on academia or work I was focused on creating my family. I have a wonderful husband who evolved from my childhood friend into my life partner. We have three beautiful children, a boy and two girls (21, 16 and 9). I love kids and I give mine the credit for inspiring me to write my children’s stories. I have a very domestic side to me and it is not unusual to see me cooking, canning, sewing, and crocheting. My Etsy shop
Pets are my other passion. I have two cats and six, yes, six guinea pigs. They are lovely little creatures and do wonders for my stress level (Pig therapy, as I call it). If I could live on a farm, I would be a happy woman!
My other hobbies include going to the theater, science fiction and horror movies, reading about earth science and climatology, and of course, writing. I have been told I have a calming , soothing nature which enables me to work well with patients and those who have just undergone significant trauma. I have also been told I have a fiery temper and am high strung! (I am a natural redhead after all). You will see this side come out in many of my characters.
So anyway, as you can see I have many sides and interests. When it comes to my writing however, I tend to gravitate towards unusual relationships/unusual romances. Perhaps it is the analytical side of me that is always interested in human nature, tied with my own personal experiences and trauma. Or, my love of the paranormal and science combined. Or, the passionate side of me that always wants to cry and rejoice when true happiness wins.
When I was 18, I lost my first love to cancer. We had a very stormy but tender relationship. Our relationship was interracial and we were the brunt of discrimination and hate. Despite that, we persisted and our love grew stronger. Tragically, destiny had another plan. I am grateful for the time I had with him and what he taught me about love. He was the inspiration for my poetry book, “Acidic Honey.”
My husband is a childhood friend who saw me through this difficult time in my life. Our relationship blossomed into the strongest one I have ever known, with a love deeper than I could have imagined. These two men had a profound influence on my life, and my creative nature.
So, when you read my stories you will see a blend of paranormal, science fiction, unique love, psychology, tragedy, fantasy, and whimsy. Take a look. I hope you enjoy!
